Instant Hand Sanitiser and Moisturising Instant Hand Sanitiser
What is the difference between the Instant Hand Sanitiser and the Moisturising Instant Hand Sanitiser? Instant Hand Sanitiser is a clear gel with a food safe citrus fragrance and is intended for food processing areas where instant kill is required and safe indirect food contact. Moisturising Instant Hand Sanitiser is an opaque white gel with additional moisturisers and is intended for use in the Healthcare sector where frequent application of the product is likely. General questions asked about both products How much product do I need to use? 1ml of either product (a thumbnail size) applied to palm of the hand and rubbed in briskly. Should I rinse my hands with water after applying the product to my hands? No, the product should not be rinsed with water. The product will evaporate quickly from the hands when it is rubbed in. How quickly do the products work? 99.9% of germs are killed after 15 seconds. What organisms do the products kill? Both products offer effective, fast acting anti-microbial action against a broad spectrum of micro-organisms, including Can I use the products to clean my hands? No, the products will not remove soiling from the hands. They are intended to sanitise hands that have been cleaned of soils. What is the % Alcohol in the products? Both products contain a minimum of 62% by volume at the end of the shelf life period. A 60%-70% solution of Ethanol gives a good skin disinfectant**. Both products contain a minimum of 62% Ethanol at the end of their shelf life and are manufactured at a higher level close to the top of the band to allow for loss of Ethanol through the packaging. ** “Biochemistry of Antimicrobial Action” by TJ Franklin, GA Snow 4th Edition 1989 What is the shelf life of the products? 24 months for bottles (codes 6321, 6323, 6326). 12 months for the bag in box codes (6322, 6325). Can I drink the alcohol? The Ethyl Alcohol has been denatured using bitrex to prevent the alcohol being drunk. Do the products kill viruses? No specific tests have been conducted to verify the efficacy against viruses. Can I use the products to clean surfaces? No. The products have been formulated for hand application. Can I apply the product on areas of my body other than my hands? The product is designed for use on hands and can also be used on the forearms. Are the products flammable? Yes, both products will burn if a naked flame is applied to them. They burn with a clear flame. How do I store the products safely? As with any flammable liquid they should be stored in a safe place, away from sources of ignition and preferably in a metal flammable liquids cupboard. Are the products compatible with Latex gloves? Yes, both products have been tested and show no damage or degradation to the Latex gloves after wearing the glove for one hour following application of the products. Specific questions asked about Moisturising Instant Hand Sanitiser. The first time I use this product I find it leaves solids on my hands. Don’t worry. In a few cases the product appears to have a mildly exfoliating effect on dead skin. After the first application the moisturisers treat the skin and the effect will disappear if use of the product is continued. What % moisturiser is included in the formulation? Greater than 3% of moisturisers are present in the formulation, which is achieved using Microsponge Technology. What is Microsponge technology? The Microsponges used in Moisturising Instant Hand Sanitiser are open structure particles with large void volumes able to hold additional emollients and barrier ingredients, which are then released on physical contact with the hands delivering the additional moisturisers. The microsponges are also capable of the reverse action and tend to absorb excess moisturisers to prevent the hands feeling tacky leaving the hands with a good skin feeling. ® Registered Trademark – MICROSPONGE – Advanced Polymer System Inc I don’t find that the Moisturising Instant Hand Sanitiser stings, why is this? This is a common observation. It is believed that the glycerin which is in the formula at a good level is responsible since one of its functions is as a barrier. Can Moisturising Instant Hand Sanitiser be used in food processing applications? This is not recommended. The product is not recognised to be safe for indirect food contact.
